Research and Development Engineer ( Mechanical Engineer )

The Undersea Systems Office (USO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is looking for a motivated and talented engineer to join our Mechanical Systems and Design Department as part of a team whose primary function will be to analyze, test, and build hardware for undersea applications. Responsibilities include: Perform analyses and tests as directed by project leads; document findings and present at various levels; and support other members of the team. This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master's degree or PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering is desired. Experience/skills in the following are preferred: Vibration; thermodynamics/heat transfer; FEA software (ABAQUS preferred); MATLAB; Fortran; CAD (Unigraphics NX or other); and C. Familiarity with the operation of various structural test equipment and instruments is also preferred. The following skills/experience are required: Thermal/structural analysis; thermal/structural testing; and technical documentation creation. You will be required to travel occasionally to support tests and meetings. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
