Assistant Research Professor

Description An Assistant Research Professor is needed in the Hafenstein lab for Cryo EM studies of virus and host interactions and tech development. This individual will be working on NIH-funded projects that focus on cryo EM structural studies of virus and host interactions and tech development. If not already experienced in structural biology, candidates should be willing to learn and become an expert in all aspects of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Cryo-EM, including sample preparation, instrument use, data processing and structural analysis. Preferred candidates will have conceptual and practical experience with TEM and Cryo EM experimental (sample preparation/screening/vitrification) and computational (RELION, cryoSPARC) approaches. The chosen applicant will benefit from access to a state-of-the-art Titan Krios microscope (installed and operational Fall 2017 in our building) with on-site experimental and computational infrastructure and support. Support staff include lab manager and bio IT. The Hafenstein Lab is part of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the main campus of Penn State University (University Park, PA), and also has direct ties to the College of Medicine (Hershey PA). We are also a part of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) to benefit from our colleagues who are pursuing other pathogens and experimental strategies.
