Software / Visualization Engineer

DESCRIPTION The Operations Research Department within the Undersea Systems Office (USO) at The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State (ARL) is seeking a Software/Visualization Engineer with a desire to apply skills to real-world analytical problems in research and development through system assessment and tool development. The successful candidate will have expertise in tool/technologies/architectures that support visualization of data in both 2-D and 3-D. Responsibilities include: develop and maintain software baseline for tool development - GIS tool/technologies (ESRI, ARCGIS, Quantum GIS, Cesium, OGC) and 3-D Gaming (Unity); maintain proper version control of software deliverables; communicate consistently and effectively (both oral and written) with peers, management, and stakeholders; work in all phases of the development lifecycle, designing software architectures, developing software applications. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Math/Statistics is preferred. A Master's Degree preferred. Preferred experience includes: interfacing with databases, physical simulation development, coding for computational efficiency in optimization or Monte-Carlo simulation problems and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design. Previous military experience, especially with undersea systems is beneficial. Experience with the following is required: scientific programming for modeling and problem solving (e.g. MATLAB, Mathematica, R, Python, C/C++, C#, Java or similar languages); familiar with Atlassian products (JIRA, BITBUCKET, Confluence); user interface development GIS tool/technologies (ESRI ARCGIS, Quantum GIS, Cesium, OGC); 3-D Gaming (Unity). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
