Assistant Director for Student Engagement at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA

The Assistant Director for Student Engagement leads and oversees teams and initiatives to evaluate and align the SEN with institutional goals as well as lead and assess efforts to engage students in meaningful and intentional out-of-the-classroom, active learning experiences. They also oversee the SEN Grant program, Engagement Coaches, and the Engagement Canvas course and are responsible for leading, assessing, and enhancing the student program which includes the participation of students from multiple locations across the university every semester, including summers. The Assistant Director develops policies, procedures, and coordinates implementation and assessment of programming for the University Park Engagement Space in the HUB-Robeson Center, the Student Engagement Expo events, and the SEN Summit program available for all faculty and staff of the university. This position also plays a key role in the implementation of the Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP), a summer bridge program for new first-year students at the University Park campus that provides a unique opportunity for student engagement early in a student's academic career. The Assistant Director assists with the development, planning, coordination, and evaluation of the LEAP program including the recruitment, selection, and supervision of undergraduate LEAP Mentors and the implementation of LEAP Mentor training. They also represent the LEAP program at admissions events including Accepted Student Programs and Spend a Summer Day, communicate with prospective and enrolled students, and collaborate with university offices to ensure robust student engagement opportunities during the summer session. The Assistant Director advises student, faculty, and staff groups on best practices in student engagement, supervises, and trains student staff, and communicates recommendations of future program needs. The Assistant Director assists in the development and implementation of SEN and OSS priorities with campus partners, develops, and oversees budgetary needs, identifies and communicates with key and external stakeholders, programs, and communities across the commonwealth to grow the university capacity for organizing and supporting significant engagement experiences for all Penn State students. Skills such as collaborative leadership, organizing complex and strategic operational processes, identifying and implementing innovative solutions, enhancing optimal support for diversity, teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills are essential to the successful completion of this work. REQUIREMENTS Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Supervisory skills and experience Strong written and oral communication skills Attention to detail and careful follow-up with collaborators Availability to work during summer sessions, on evenings or weekends when needed Demonstrated experience in building relationships PREFERENCES Masters degree in Higher Education or a related field Experience implementing programs and services in higher education The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability in all of its forms. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
