Data Systems Developer at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA

The Database Systems Developer will collaborate with our team to design and implement a cloud platform strategy, including Snowflake Data Cloud. The Database Systems Developer will be the knowledge and technical expert of our cloud strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers and IT professionals to design and transition some of our database systems to form a hybrid on-prem cloud environment that adapts to the unique needs of various data intensive social science research projects. Key workloads of the Data Accelerator include:
Ingesting bounded data streams from government and industry partners (e.g. transactional data, attendance records, case management records) Linking and merging files for the development of longitudinal databases Curation of data for researcher consumption (e.g., creating data extracts for regression analysis, running of multilevel models)
Responsibilities:
Design creative solutions for performance, scale, and high availability Create information architecture for organizing data informed by research use cases Manage and maintain proper governance and security including provisioning and access management Develop platform pipelines through integrated systems, APIs, scripts, and other third-party connectors Provide routine reporting on pipeline activity, costs, and performance Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of data management specialists, statistical experts, and IT professionals Research and recommend cloud-based tools and services Preferred Experience and Skills:
Strong understanding of DevOps concepts, tools, and workflows Collaboration with diverse stakeholders including IT staff, scientists, and research teams Knowledge of research workflows and processes Experience in database administration or management Strong software and system architecture skills Experience in Linux/Unix administration, Windows Server and Windows Terminal Server Desire to learn new skills and technologies and to work collaboratively with peers Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud services (experience with AWS is desirable) Experience with Relational & non-relational databases (MySQL, SQL Server, NoSQL) Some experience with virtual machines This position requires a Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience or equivalent. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
