JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Associate Director of Campus Recreation -- Tennis & Risk Management Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic leader to join our team. Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Campus Recreation, this position provides leadership and management of all aspects of management at the Tennis Center as well as for the oversight and coordination of risk management practices and policies in all Campus Recreation facilities. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellbeing programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following:
IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing Programs, Intramural Sports, and Outdoor Adventures. Campus Recreation is comprised of 53 full-time staff and more than 900 student staff members. Specific responsibilities include providing general facility management and oversight for the Tennis Center, comprised of 4 indoor courts and 6 outdoor, clay courts. This position will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive risk management program for all Campus Recreation facilities. The Associate Director will be integral in mentoring and leading the full-time staff who are responsible for the daily delivery of these programs, services, and responsibilities. This position typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus 6
years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree in educational administration, recreation or sport management, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of six years full-time experience managing collegiate recreation programs, facilities, and/or services including the supervision of full-time staff members is highly desired. This position is responsible for the management and supervision of four full-time staff members including two Assistant Directors, two Coordinators, and the management of more than 40 student staff. Responsible fiscal management of an annual operating budget more than $1,000,000. The Associate Director provides vital leadership in the Department of Campus Recreation and is invested in the growth, direction, and progress of the entire department, in addition to his/her individual areas of responsibility. The Associate Director must have a thorough understanding of departmental vision, mission, values, and goals, as well as student development theory and be able to communicate this information with Assistant Directors, Coordinators, and student staff. The Associate Director will collaborate with both internal and external groups to complete the job responsibilities and support the Department of Campus Recreation. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices as they relate to collegiate recreation programs, facilities and services is essential. Leadership and supervisory skills to select, supervise, motivate, and evaluate student employees relative to work performance, crisis management, risk management, customer service, and peer relationships as demonstrated through past supervision of full-time and student staff are crucial. Budgeting skills to develop, supervise and manage multiple, assigned facility, program and service budgets and prioritize use of funds are required. This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Senior Leadership Team as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential.
